Lockheed Martin has been awarded a USD3.37 billion contract to deliver an unspecified number of PAC-3 missiles for the Patriot air-defence systems operated by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, the US Department of Defense (DoD) announced on 21 December.
The contract announcement did not state how many missiles each country would receive but said ground support equipment and spares were included in the contract, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
Analysis
While it is unclear if the contract covers Kuwait's first PAC-3 missiles, Saudi Arabia is known to have already ordered both the standard Cost-Reduction Initiative (CRI) and the larger, more capable Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) variants.
